Charlie Balcom enters his fifth year as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Lindsey Wilson College in 2017-18.
Balcom is responsible for all aspects of the Sports Information Department including the writing and distribution of press releases, creating media guides and game programs, inputting and recording statistics, managing social media accounts, conducting interviews with student-athletes and coaches, graphic design, and all game day setup and operations.
He handles all of the video production aspects for the athletic department including the annual All-Sports Highlight video that premiers at the Athletics Awards Ceremony each spring.
Balcom also serves as the play-by-play broadcaster for all of the Blue Raider men's and women's home soccer matches on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.
Throughout the 2016-17 athletic year, Balcom helped cover 17 teams that qualified for national postseason competition, including national runner-up performances from the women's tennis and wrestling teams, and a pair of individual national champion student-athletes.
The 2015-16 season saw Balcom help provide communication efforts for 19 teams that made national tournament appearances, including the national runner-up in women's soccer and women's tennis, and national semifinalists in volleyball and men's tennis. He chronicled the highest finishes in program history by the volleyball, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's basketball, baseball, men's outdoor track & field, men's swimming and women's swimming teams.
In 2014-15, Balcom helped provide coverage for multiple programs that saw postseason success, including the women's soccer team winning their fourth national title, the softball team finishing as the national runner-up, a third-place finish by the wrestling team, the first-ever postseason appearance by the football team, the first World Series appearance by the baseball team along with deep national tournament runs by the volleyball, men's and women's tennis, men's golf and men's soccer teams.
During his first season with the Blue Raiders, Balcom aided in the coverage of 16 teams that made national championship apperances, including four individual national champions. He traveled and provided media coverage at various championship sites for Lindsey Wilson including the NAIA volleyball, tennis and softball national championships.
Balcom has helped host Mid-South Conference Tournament games and NAIA National Championship Opening Round contests on campus throughout the years, providing statistical support, media coverage and general game operations.
Prior to taking over the Assistant SID position, Balcom served as the Sports Information Intern for Lindsey Wilson during the 2012-13 season where he was a part of 14 teams that made national championship appearances including the 2012 Women's Soccer National Champions. He helped to implement the new Stretch Internet broadcasting system used during athletic events and develop multimedia content for all sports.
Prior to Lindsey Wilson, Balcom worked as an intern in the New Media and Broadcasting Department at the University of Cincinnati.
Balcom graduated from Cincinnati in 2012.
