LEBANON, Tenn. -- Third-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball extended its winning streak to 11 to open the season with a sweep of host Cumberland (Tenn.) tonight at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
Lindsey Wilson moves into sole possession of first place in the Mid-South Conference with the 25-13, 25-21, 25-14 win. The Blue Raiders are now 2-0 in the conference. Cumberland falls to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the MSC.
The Blue Raiders dominated the opening set using a 15-3 run to build as much as a 14-point lead. Lindsey Wilson hit .379 in the opening set while limiting the Phoenix to eight kills and seven attacking errors.
Lindsey Wilson used another run -- this time at the end of the set -- to take the second frame 25-21. Trailing 21-19, the Blue Raiders scored the final six points of the set. A pair of Paulina Sobolewska kills and four Cumberland errors aided the Lindsey Wilson comeback and a 2-0 lead.
After a back-and-forth opening to the third set, Lindsey Wilson broke free in the latter stages to take the final set 25-14. Leading 12-11, the Blue Raiders scored six of the next seven points -- part of a 13-3 run to end the set and secure the three-game sweep.
Lindsey Wilson concluded the match hitting .312 against the top-blocking team -- 107 blocks this season -- in the Mid-South Conference. The Phoenix managed just three blocks against the potent Blue Raider attack. Cumberland ended the match hitting .100 as a team.
Yeniffer Ramirez led the Lindsey Wilson offensive attack with 10 kills and a .368 attacking percentage. Grace Blomstedt added eight kills while hitting .571. Makenzie Montano contributed 27 assists while Caitlyn Tino provided a team-high 11 digs. Montano added three block assists and Blomstedt recorded a solo block and two block assists as the Blue Raiders finished with six team blocks.
Mikayla Wickham and Masa Nalovic led the Phoenix with eight kills each.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, Sept. 14, as the Blue Raiders travel to Pikeville (Ky.).
