COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's soccer programs play host to a pair of top-25 teams this Saturday as the women take on No. 1 Northwestern Ohio at 5 p.m. CT followed by the men against No. 21 Union at 7 p.m. CT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raider women are 1-1-2 on the season after back-to-back 0-0 draws against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and No. 16 Baker (Kan.). Jovana Ivanovic was in net both games for the Blue Raiders and currently holds a 221 minute scoreless streak. Against Baker, the Blue Raiders missed a penalty kick in the third minute and registered five shots on goal with chances coming in the box, but were unable to convert.
Northwestern Ohio (4-1-0), the defending NAIA National Champions, is ranked No. 1 in the national poll with their only loss coming against No. 2-ranked Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Wednesday 1-0.
The Racers have 11 goals from five different players this season creating a balanced offensive attack led by junior Camilla Anderson with four goals and sophomore Evdokia Popadinova with three goals and three assists on the season. Goalkeeper Romane Salvador anchors the defense, allowing just three goals on 25 shots for a .880 save percentage.
The matchup between the Blue Raiders and the Racers is the fourth time in four years the programs have met. Lindsey Wilson is 2-1-0 with a 2-0 loss coming during the 2016 regular season.
Lindsey Wilson's men's soccer team last played in the Thomas Invitational on Sept. 2-3. Lindsey Wilson's first match against Thomas (Ga.) was stopped due to multiple lightning delays, ending in a "no contest" result. The Blue Raiders picked up a 5-2 victory against Saint Thomas (Fla.) on the final day of the invitational. Mutaya Mwape scored two goals and picked up an assist. Karim Jouini, Yuta Yamamoto and Spencer Moeller each scored a goal while Israel Reyna recorded two assists.
Union (2-1-1) won their last match against then No. 13-ranked Midland (Neb.) 3-1 on Monday where Alex Smith scored two goals and George Doyle scored once. Steve Beilby and Ryan Coleman each recorded an assist. Smith and Louis Nuttal are tied for the team lead in goals with two apiece.
Saturday's matchup is the 15th meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds a 10-3-1 edge in the series. The two teams met last season with Union picking up a 3-1 victory.
