NEW ALBANY, Ind. – For the second-straight night, the No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team recorded a sweep on the road, this time beating Indiana-Southeast 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16).
The Blue Raiders remain perfect on the year with a 10-0 record while the Grenadiers are still searching for their first win this season at 0-10.
It marked the second time this season these two squads have met, LWC also picking up a 3-0 win in the Blue Raiders' season opener back on Aug. 18 in Columbia.
Lindsey Wilson started fast in the opening set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead over the host Grenadiers. Indiana-Southeast slowly chipped into that Blue Raider lead, getting it down to a single point at 10-9, but Lindsey Wilson responded with an 8-3 run to extend their lead to six points. The first frame finally came to a close when Lauren Streets served up an ace to give the Blue Raiders the 25-18 win.
Set two was tighter throughout the early goings with the Grenadiers capturing the opening point, their first lead of the night. After an exchange of points that saw the set played to a 10-10 tie, Lindsey Wilson rolled off an 11-2 run that gave them a 21-12 lead. Streets set up set point with another ace and two points later, Makenzie Montano recorded a kill to give the Blue Raiders the 25-15 win.
Indiana-Southeast captured the first point in set three, but once again that would represent their lone lead of the set as the Blue Raiders scored the next four points. The Grenadiers attempted to retake the lead, cutting their deficit down to two points at 13-11, but Lindsey Wilson came back with a 12-5 run to close out the set, the final point coming on a kill from Nathalya De Souza to give LWC the 3-0 sweep.
Burke and Paulina Sobolewska finished with seven kills each to lead the team. Montano tallied 25 assists while Caitlyn Tino amassed 15 digs. Maddie Bivens also recorded a pair of service aces in the win. As a team, the Blue Raiders collected nine blocks and held the Grenadiers to a -.090 attacking percentage.
Lindsey Wilson returns to conference play for their next match, a Sept. 12 trip to Cumberland (Tenn.).
