COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball program has added transfer student-athlete Gerda Paulauskaite for the upcoming 2017-18 season, head coach John B. Wethington announced on Thursday.
Paulauskaite transfers to Lindsey Wilson after playing the 2016-17 season at NCAA Division II institution Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Blue Raiders.
"Gerda brings size and athleticism to our team, which we were in need of with the loss of five forwards from last year's roster," Wethington said. "She is a solid defender in the paint and has the ability to be a great shot blocker."
During her sophomore season at Lincoln Memorial, Paulauskaite made appearances in 32 games throughout the year, including one start, while averaging 8.4 minutes per contest. She averaged 2.8 rebounds per game while defensively adding 0.8 blocks per game, finishing with 24 total blocks on the year. Twice during the 2016-17 campaign she finished with a season-high nine rebounds in a game. She had previously redshirted the 2015-16 season at Lincoln Memorial.
Prior to attending Lincoln Memorial, Paulauskaite attended NCAA Division I member Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
Her freshman season with the Runnin' Bulldogs, the 6-foot-3 forward played in 19 games and averaged 0.7 blocks per contest, finishing with 14 on the year in 101 total minutes. In just her second collegiate basketball game, she racked up seven blocks, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks in just 14 minutes of action for Gardner-Webb.
Before playing collegiate ball, Paulauskaite attended Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She helped lead Hamilton Heights to the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) National Championship and was named to the NACA Division II First Team.
"Gerda also adds some depth on offense and she can score with her back to the basket and with her 15-foot jump shot," Wethington said. "We look forward to seeing her in a Blue Raider uniform."
