COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team heads to Newport, Kentucky for a pair of Wednesday games with Cincinnati Christian. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
Lindsey Wilson (35-8) is coming off a series victory over then-No. 6-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) last Thursday and Friday. The Blue Raiders took three games out of four against the Tigers and secured the outright MSC regular season title in the process – their sixth overall and first since 2014.
The Blue Raiders split with Campbellsville on Thursday before sweeping the Tigers on Friday, including a 4-3 victory in eight innings in game three.
In the third game, Samantha Luckett batted 3-for-4 with a double and a run driven in. The sophomore had a hit in each game of the series – eight in total – and earned her first MSC Player of the Week award.
Taylor Slade came away as the MSC's Pitcher of the Week after making two appearances against Campbellsville. She allowed a hit and a walk across 1-2/3 innings of relief on Thursday before starting the next day and allowing three runs on ten hits in seven innings. In addition, the freshman fired a complete-game, three-hit shutout against Cumberland (Tenn.) earlier in the week.
Cincinnati Christian (13-11) split a doubleheader with Wright State-Lake (Ohio) last Friday. The Eagles won 12-0 in an abbreviated, five-inning contest in the opening game before losing 6-5 in game two.
As a team, the Eagles bat .306. Valerie Hudepohl leads the team with a .409 average and is one of five players hitting over .300. Bailey Blair tops the team in both home runs (six) and runs batted in (29).
In the circle, Cincinnati Christian pitchers tote a 5.33 earned run average. Courtney Garrett has made a team-leading 11 starts for the Eagles and is 7-3 with a 5.29 ERA over 41 innings of work.
Wednesday's meeting is the first between the two teams under head coach David Dews.
