NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team suffered an 8-1 setback on the road to No. 25-ranked Indiana Southeast on Tuesday night.
The Grenadiers (33-9) out-hit the Blue Raiders (25-20) 14-5 and batted .389 as a team. Lindsey Wilson hit .161 and committed four errors, which matches a season high.
Jayden Jackson collected a team-high two hits for Lindsey Wilson. Five Grenadiers tallied multiple hits, including three-hit outings by Richard Rodriguez and Hector Marmol.
Steve Colella started on the mound for the Blue Raiders and pitched three innings. The senior righty allowed two runs on six hits and one walk and struck out one.
Indiana Southeast jumped ahead with a run in the home half of the first. Rodriguez led off the inning with a double. Logan Barnes followed with a single, and Rodriguez advanced to third before coming home to score on an errant throw by Mauricio Guadarrama.
The Grenadiers pushed their lead to 2-0 with another run in the bottom of the third. Once again, Rodriguez started the inning with a leadoff double and later scored on Marmol's single.
Chance Coates relieved Colella to start the fourth inning and allowed two runs – one earned – on one hit and two walks.
Lindsey Wilson managed just three base runners in the first five innings. Guadarrama singled with two outs in the top of the fifth inning to snap a streak of nine-consecutive batters retired.
Indiana Southeast scored twice more in the fifth before pushing its lead to 8-0 with a two-run bottom of the sixth inning. Rodriguez doubled with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to drive home Kyle Goodman and Josh Beams. Tyler Leenknecth's two-run single accounted for the Grenadiers' scoring in the sixth inning.
Brandon Nylin started and pitched two innings for Indiana Southeast – picking up the win in a game that featured six different Grenadier pitchers. Nylin allowed just one hit and a walk and struck out two.
The Blue Raiders return to action tomorrow when they host Brescia (Ky.) for a single game starting at 4 p.m. CT.
