COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson women's track & field team competed at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Kentucky and Cumberlands (Ky.) Invitational in Williamsburg, Ky. On Saturday.
The Blue Raiders met two NAIA national standards on the day and turned in nine top-five finishes.
WKU Hilltopper Relays
Two Blue Raider athletes hit "B" national standards at the Hilltopper Relays. Alexia DeHaven-Boyd met the "B" cut in the 400 meter hurdles and placed seventh out of 21 competitors with a time of 1:04.67. Annesha Harris cleared 5.59 meters in the long jump -- finishing in a two-way tie for seventh place and hitting the "B" standard.
VaShawnda Smith earned a pair of top-20 results in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Smith placed 12th in the 100 meters at 12.37. She then ran 25.35 in the 200 meter to finish 17th.
Tatiana Williams finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.45. She also placed 14th in the long jump, clearing 5.42 meters.
Chanel Roberts took first place in the shot put competition at the Cumberlands Invitational. The senior from Radcliff, Kentucky cleared 14.37 meters in her second attempt -- meeting the national "A" standard in the process.
Paige Pettell also placed in the top five in the shot put -- finishing fifth out of 49 competitors with a mark of 12.01 meters.
Pettell also claimed runner-up honors in the discus throw. The freshman posted a mark of 40.53 meters on her sixth and final try to place ahead of 43 other participants.
Lindsey Wilson saw two competitors finish in the top 10 in the hammer throw. Pettell placed fourth with a mark of 44.18 meters, while Taylor Bent finished 10th at 37.57 meters.
Brandy Baas took fourth place in the javelin with a throw of 30.69 meters to edge out fifth-place Leslie Tanis of Spring Arbor (Mich.) by .11 meters.
Nikki Coffey finished in fourth place in the 800 meter run -- the highest finish by a Blue Raider in a running event. The sophomore finished the race in 2:24.68.
Hayley Respress took fifth place in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 1:12.37. Baas also turned in a top-10 finish in the 400 meter hurdles, taking ninth place with a time of 1:15.20.
Rachel Green and Rachel Browning placed back-to-back in the high jump, at sixth and seventh, respectively. Both athletes cleared 1.48 meters, but Green cleared the bar in fewer attempts to finish ahead of her teammate.
Two Blue Raiders placed in the top 10 in the 5,000 meter run. Mia Cornett finished seventh out of 23 competitors at 19:50.83, and Maria Cozzens placed four seconds behind Cornett in ninth place.
Breana Conway finished in 10th place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:15.80.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on April 14 for day one of the two-day Austin Peay State Governors Invitational in Clarksville, Tennessee.
