COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball fell to No. 14-ranked Bryan (Tenn.) 7-6 in 10 innings on Wednesday at Egnew Park.
Justin Morhardt got the Lions (17-5) on the board first in the top of the first inning with a solo home run. Lawyer Braun led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to center field. Tanner Moore reached on an error that advanced Braun to second. Braun scored on a ground out to tie the game at 1-1. Jan Carlos Ortiz led off the bottom of the second with a single then advanced to second on a stolen base. Antonio Dorado drove in Ortiz with a single to give the Blue Raiders a 2-1 lead.
Mikey Rita hit his first home run of the game in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. Moore led off the bottom of the third inning with a walk and advanced to second on a stolen base. Giland tripled to deep left-center to score Moore to give the Blue Raiders a 3-2 lead. Giland came around to score on an error by the right fielder to increase the lead to 4-2. Steven Paredes scored on a wild pitch to give Lindsey Wilson a 5-2 lead.
The Lions scored a run in the fifth and sixth inning to cut the Blue Raider lead to 5-4. Kila Zuttermeister hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and Lake Burris hit a solo home run in the sixth. Anderson hit his first home run of the season in the sixth inning to give Lindsey Wilson a 6-4 lead.
Rita led off the ninth inning hitting his second home run of the game to trim the deficit to 6-5. Zuttermeister then singled and advanced to second after a Wade Weinburger sacrifice bunt. Zuttermeister advanced to third on a wild pitch and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 6-6. Tyler Scott scored Fernando Garcia with a single to right field to give the Lions a 7-6 lead.
Bryan has now won 12 consecutive games. Chad Burrows (4-0) picked up the win not allowing a hit in 2 innings of work, walking three batters.
The loss for the Blue Raiders ended a 10 game winning streak and snapped a 15 game home winning streak dating back to last season. Steve Colella (3-1) picked up the loss pitching 3-1/3 innings giving up three earned runs.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan beginning at 3 p.m. CT at Egnew Park.
