LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team fell to Georgia Gwinnett 14-7 on Saturday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
Georgia Gwinnett (9-3) got on the board first in the first inning on an RBI single. The Grizzlies would add two more runs in the inning after an error by the shortstop to take a 3-0 lead.
Connor Anderson led off the second inning with a single to shallow center field, followed by a Jayden Jackson single that advanced Anderson to third. Jan Carlos Ortiz drove in the first run of the day for the Blue Raiders on a line out to center field to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Kyler Timmerman opened up the bottom of the second with a solo homerun in left field to increase the Grizzly lead to 4-1. After an error on a stolen base attempt, a walked batter and a hit by pitch, bases clear double increased the lead to 7-1. Georgia Gwinnett would put up two more runs in the inning to take a 9-1 lead heading into the third.Lindsey Wilson added a run in the third inning to cut the lead to 9-2. Giland tripled to deep center field. Braun drove in the lone run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Raiders scored two in the fifth inning due to a pair of Grizzly errors. Tanner Moore was walked and Ray Gonzalez reached first on a bunt error by the catcher, which advanced Moore to third base. Moore scored on a wild throw by the pitcher and Gonzalez was able to move to third. A double by Giland drove in Gonzalez to cut the lead to 9-4.
James Doubet retired the side in the fifth inning with three consecutive strikeouts. Lindsey Wilson escaped a jam in the sixth inning. After the first two batters in the inning were hit by a pitch Doubet was able to pick off the runner at second for the first out of the inning. Doubet then went on to retire the next two batters on strikeouts.
Zach Hutchison and Anderson started the eighth inning off drawing consecutive walks. Hutchison scored after an Ortiz fly out to cut the lead to 9-5.
Georgia Gwinnett scored five runs in its half of eighth. The Grizzlies got their first run of the inning on single in right field. Brady Hamilton hit a grand slam to increase the lead to 14-5.
The Blue Raiders put up two runs in their final frame with a Braun sacrifice flies by Jackson and Braun to make it 14-7.
RJ Hanson (1-1) picked up the loss in 1-1/3 innings of work. Doubet recorded 12 strikeouts in 6-1/3 innings of relief.
