LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team dropped the first of a three-game series against No. 5-ranked Georgia Gwinnett 9-3 Friday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
The Grizzlies (8-3) struck first in the bottom of the first inning scoring on a bunt single to take a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning Georgia Gwinnett got across another run after a throwing error on stolen base attempt to take double its lead to 2-0.
Lindsey Wilson had runners on first and second in the top half of the second inning but was not able to advance them. Jayden Jackson was hit by a pitch to start the second inning After a strike out, Mauricio Guadarrama was walked but the inning would end on a fly out and a line out stranding the runners.
The Grizzlies added one run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-0 and then doubled their lead with a three run third inning on a two-run triple and a single. Georgia Gwinnett added another run in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.
After a fly out to begin the fifth inning and a Braun hit by pitch, Tanner Moore recorded the first hit for Lindsey Wilson with a single to right field. Spencer Wise was walked then Salcedo drove in the first run of the game for Lindsey Wilson on a single to right field.
Moore scored the other run of the inning on a Giland walk to cut the lead to 7-2. The Blue Raiders stranded the bases loaded with a force out at home and a ground out to the pitcher. Braun recorded his second RBI of the game on a left field single trimming the deficit to 7-3.
Georgia Gwinnett added a run in the sixth on an infield single and scored one in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Raiders had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth after a single and two walks. Lindsey Wilson popped out in foul territory to end the game.
Ricky Winfield (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits in 5-1/3 innings.
Game two of the series is tomorrow at 12 p.m. CT at the Grizzly Baseball Complex.
