COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men’s and women’s tennis teams earned nation rankings in the first NAIA poll of the season released today by the NAIA.
The Lindsey Wilson College women received 296 points from the 13 region raters to earn a No. 3 ranking. The Blue Raider men received 251 points and are No. 6 in the first regular season poll.
Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) sits atop both polls as the men and women each received 325 points, including all 13 first-place votes.
On the women’s side, Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University is No. 2 with 311 points. Vanguard (Calif.) University and Savannah (Ga.) College of Art & Design are fourth and fifth respectively with 288 and 267 points.
The Lindsey Wilson women advanced to the 2007 national semifinal before falling to eventual champion AUM 5-3.
The Blue Raiders return NAIA All-Americans Candela Castanon and Fadzai Mawisire to lead the 2008 Lindsey Wilson team. The Blue Raiders also welcome a strong recruiting class led by freshmen Laurie Anciaux and Darya Yarblonskaya.
On the men’s side, Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University is No. 2 with 306 points. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (Fla.) University (302 points), Fresno Pacific (283) and SCAD (269) round out the top-five.
The Blue Raider men welcome four newcomers to go along with junior Eddie Khan and sophomore All-American Freddy Luciani.
