COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson Softball is the preseason favorite to win the 2017 Mid-South Conference regular-season title, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches' Poll released by conference officials on Tuesday.
The Blue Raiders received 34 voting points, including four first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Lindsey Wilson finished 2016 with a 46-14 record. The Blue Raiders reached the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round championship game last season, falling one game shy of returning to the NAIA Softball World Series.
Campbellsville (Ky.) is second in the poll with 32 voting points and two first-place votes. Georgetown (Ky.) is third with 26 voting points and the final first-place vote.
Cumberland (Tenn.) is fourth in the poll with 19 voting points followed by Pikeville (Ky.) with 13 voting points. Cumberlands (Ky.) is sixth in the voting with 12 points and Shawnee State (Ohio) is seventh with 11 voting points.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The 2017 Mid-South Conference softball season begins in February. The conference tournament is scheduled for April 28-30 at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Blue Raiders begin their season at the Southern Challenge Feb. 16-18 in Beaufort, South Carolina. The Blue Raiders face Reinhardt (Ga.) and Bryan (Tenn.) during the opening day of the challenge. Lindsey Wilson also faces host South Carolina-Beuafort, Thomas (Ga.), Faulkner (Ala.) and William Carey (Miss.) during the three-day event.
