LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College cross country and track & field coach Edwin Hagans and sophomore Amanda Johnson were honored on Saturday night at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association-United States of America Track and Field Awards.

Hagans was selected as Kentucky Small College Women’s College Coach of the Year, while Johnson was named Kentucky Female Race Walker of the Year.

The awards are the first for Hagans and Johnson.

Hagans, in his third year season at Lindsey Wilson, led the Blue Raider women’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams to 23rd and 47th finishes respectively and led the women’s cross country team to their second straight Mid-South Conference title in 2007.

Hagans is a four-time Mid-South Conference cross country coach of the year and has been selected three times as coach of the year in track & field by conference coaches.

“I’m honored to receive this prestigious award,” Hagans said. “This award is a reflection of all the hard work of all our student-athletes and their dedication to the sport of track and field.”

This season, Hagans led the Lindsey Wilson cross country teams to a sweep of the Mid-South Conference championships.

Johnson, a Morganfield, Ky., native, earned NAIA All-American honors as a freshman at the 2007 NAIA Outdoor National Championships last May.

Johnson finished sixth at the USA Track and Field 5K Race Walk Championships in Kingsport, Tenn. in October and seventh at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships in June.

“Amanda is an extremely hard worker and very deserving of the award,” Hagans said.“She exudes dedication through all aspects in her life and it is with no surprise that she was chosen for this award.”

Lindsey Wilson begins their indoor track & field season in late January. The Blue Raiders full schedule will be announced later this month.
