DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women’s soccer team makes their fifth appearance in the NAIA national semifinals tonight at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
The No. 2-seed Blue Raiders (17-2-3) face third-seeded Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University (19-1-1) at 7 p.m. CT for the right to go to the national championship match on Tuesday night.
Top-seeded Lee (Tenn.) University (22-1-0) and fifth-seeded Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College (17-4-1) play in the other national semifinal. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. CT.
Tonight’s appearance is the Blue Raiders second straight semifinal appearance and fourth in five seasons. Lindsey Wilson is 2-1-1 all-time in the semifinals including a 2-1 win over Martin Methodist last season. The Blue Raiders are currently on a six-match national tournament winning streak.
The national semifinal participants are familiar with one another.
The four programs competed on the same pitch in the KELME Classic hosted by Lindsey Wilson in mid-September at Lindsey Wilson Park. That weekend, the Blue Raiders defeated Azusa Pacific 1-0, while Lee beat Martin Methodist 4-1 on the second night of the classic.
Entering tonight’s semifinal match, Lindsey Wilson has won two straight in the series with Azusa Pacific. In addition to the win earlier this season, the Blue Raiders beat Azusa Pacific 2-1 in last season in the four overtimes to win the program’s second national championship.
The Cougars hold a 3-2-1 all-time series advantage over Lindsey Wilson.
