Lindsey Wilson falls 10-7 to Cumberland in the opening round and loses 8-5 to Bluefield in the elimination game

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson baseball fell to Cumberland (Tenn.) University 10-7 and in an elimination game at Egnew Park 8-5 to Bluefield (Va.) College in the 2014 Mid-South Conference Tournament to end its season on Sunday.

Lindsey Wilson (26-29) took an early 2-0 lead on a Mitchell Osnowitz two-run shot over the centerfield fence in game one against Cumberland. The Bulldogs answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Josciel Veras hit a sacrifice fly to score Chris Hall who reached base after being hit by a pitch to cut the lead to 2-1. Justin Byrd made it 3-2 on a two-RBI single to right field.

The Blue Raider bats remained hot as Lindsey Wilson scored five runs in the top of the second to take a 7-3 lead. Mark Silva and Russ Morse both bunted to reach base and Osnowitz loaded the bases with an intentional walk to start the second inning. Jeandro Andino reached on a Cumberland error that scored Silva to tie it at 3-3. Alex Bautista doubled down the left field line that scored Leonardo Ramirez - courtesy running for Morse - and Osnowitz to take a 5-3 lead. Trey Davis hit a two-RBI single that scored Andino and Bautista to make it 7-3.

Cumberland (37-17) got two runs back in the bottom of the second inning when Ricky Coleman crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence to cut the lead to 7-5.

Cumberland's Anthony Gomez started on the mound and went two innings allowing seven runs - three earned - on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Kevin P. Greene relieved Gomez in the third inning.

Lindsey Wilson's starting pitcher England Smith settled down after the second as he retired the side in the third inning. In the fourth, Smith allowed a single and with two outs, Coleman hit a double to deep right field to score Richie Seaton who had reached on a single and make it 7-6.

The Bulldogs scored the tying run in the fifth inning after a Tyler Anderson single made it 7-7 as Greene came in relief and shut the Blue Raiders down. Greene allowed seven hits in seven innings while stranding nine Blue Raiders on the bases. As a team the Blue Raiders left 13 men on base.

Lindsey Wilson's Jason Turner relieved Smith to start the sixth inning. Smith finished the game allowing seven runs - six earned - on eight hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Cumberland took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth inning when Seaton opened it up with a single and was moved over on a Tyler Alford sacrifice bunt. Hall followed with a single to put runners on first and third with one out. Coleman doubled to deep center field for his fourth and fifth RBI to give the Bulldogs a 9-7 lead. Coleman would score on a Sam Lind triple to make it 10-7 and help secure the win to send Cumberland on in the winner's bracket.

Turner (6-5) took the loss going three innings allowing three earned runs on four hits. Osnowitz finished the game 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored. Bautista went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored. Davis finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

In the first elimination game of the tournament against Bluefield, Lindsey Wilson's Matt Lashlee retired the side in order in the first and allowed a hit and a walk in the second, but induced a ground ball to get out of the inning unscathed.

The Blue Raiders bats gave Lashlee a three-run lead in the bottom of the third when Nick Hoffman led off with a double, advanced to third on a Silva sacrifice bunt and scored on a Derek Shugart bunt to make it 1-0. Andino made it 3-0 on a two-RBI single to left-center field that chased home Silva and Shugart.

Lindsey Wilson added one more run in the fourth on a Silva sacrifice bunt to take a 4-0 lead.

Lashlee made quick work of the Bulldogs in the fourth inning before giving up five runs - four earned - in the fifth inning. Zac Russell-Myers hit an RBI double to score Tyler Rome and make it 4-1. A wild pitch advanced Russell-Myers and he scored on a Tyler Lundgren single to left field to cut the lead to 4-2. With the bases loaded, Daniel Copeland singled to make it 4-3 and keep the bases full.

Sam Ross relieved Lashlee after the single to Copeland. Lashlee finished with nine hits, five runs - four earned - in four and one third innings. Ross got Sawyer McLamb to ground into a fielder's choice, but a wild throw allowed the tying run to cross the plate. A passed ball by Davis scored Jacob Schober to give Bluefield a 5-4 lead.

Bluefield made it 8-4 in the seventh inning when Tyler Timmer doubled down the left field line to score Daniel Copeland and McLamb, followed by a Russell-Myers sacrifice fly to left to score Rome.

In the bottom of the seventh, Andino and Bautista hit back-to-back doubles to cut the lead to 8-5.
