Five Blue Raiders finished in double figures in the 84-74 victory

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team outscored Pikeville (Ky.) 18-8 in overtime to secure the 84-74 win Saturday night.

The Blue Raiders (17-8, 7-6 MSC) were led by Bre Elder with 22 points on the night. Kayla Richardson scored 14 points going 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and Keosha Wisener finished with a career-high 13 points. Cassidy Martin added 12 points off the bench and Chanel Roberts fell just shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Roberts also led the team with three blocks.

Lindsey Wilson grabbed control early jumping out to a 14-8 lead after a made free throw by Elder. Pikeville responded with a 10-5 run to cut the lead to 19-18 with 5:26 remaining in the first.

After the Bears took a 22-21 lead, Tara Arnold hit a three to take it back for Lindsey Wilson. Pikeville responded with a three of their own to retake the lead 25-24. The Bears would go on a 10-5 run to close out the half and take a 35-29 lead into halftime.

Pikeville outshot Lindsey Wilson 37.8 percent to 35.5 percent in the first half, but the Blue Raiders hit 62.5 percent from beyond the arc compared to 45.5 percent by the Bears. Pikeville held the advantage in rebounds 30-17, including 12 offensive rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson opened the second half by cutting the Pikeville lead to one after a pair of Richardson free throws, but the Bears answered with seven straight points to take 44-36 lead with 17:01 to play.

The Blue Raiders managed to cut the lead to one point again after a pair of Roberts free throws at the 11:42 mark, but Pikeville held onto the lead and pushed it to as many as five points at 60-55.

With 4:09 to play, Lindsey Wilson took their first lead of the second half after a 7-0 run, capped off by a Martin three pointer. After an exchange of baskets, the Blue Raiders held a 66-64 lead with 1:38 to play. Neither team was able to connect on a shot for the next minute and a half until Pikeville's Callisha Johnson scored a basket with eight seconds to play to tie the game. Lindsey Wilson turned the ball over on the next possession and Pikeville missed a long three-point shot attempt to send the game into overtime tied 66-66.

Pikeville took a two-point lead to begin the overtime period after a pair of free throws by Cheyenne Madden. The Blue Raiders answered with an 8-0 run to take a 74-68 lead with 2:58 to play. Pikeville cut it to two points at 74-72, but Lindsey Wilson answered with another run of six straight points to lead 80-72 with 43 seconds to play. The Blue Raiders controlled the remainder of the game and made 4-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds to take the game 84-74.

Lindsey Wilson shot 40.3 percent from the field for the game while Pikeville shot 39.7 percent. The difference came at the free-throw line where the Blue Raiders scored 29 points on 29-of-36 shooting compared to just 11 points on 11-of-20 for the Bears. Despite losing the rebounding advantage 52-37, Lindsey Wilson won the turnover battle by committing just 15 compared to 25 by Pikeville. The Blue Raiders turned those 25 turnovers into 22 points.

Pikeville's Madden and Brogan Conley both finished with 22 points in the loss. Khalilah Quigley added a 10 point, 12 rebound double-double on the night. Kelah Eldridge finished with seven assists.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action when they host Cumberland (Tenn.) on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. CT.
