LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 9 Lindsey Wilson volleyball fell in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Finals to Georgetown (Ky.) College 3-2 at MidAmerica Sports Center.
This was the third straight year the Blue Raiders and the Tigers met for the MSC Tournament Final with Lindsey Wilson winning the first two previous meetings 3-1, before losing tonight in five sets. The Blue Raiders now await an at-large bid to the NAIA Opening Round that will be announced on Monday, November 18.
In the first set, Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown were tied six times early on before the Blue Raiders took a 12-10 lead after a Anderson kill. The Tigers came back with two straight points to tie it for the eighth time at 12-12 on a kill by Emily Weber. Lindsey Wilson took a three point lead at 16-13 before an attack error tied the set at 16.
Georgetown went on a 5-1 run before the Blue Raiders cut it to two at 22-20 on another Anderson Kill. The Tigers sealed set one with a kill by Rachel Eubanks to win the set 25-22.
The second set was no different as the set was tied at three, four and five before the Tigers took an early 7-5 lead. The Blue Raider took the lead at 14-12 after three straight Tiger attack errors. Lindsey Wilson pushed it to 20-14 when Nesheva took an Alexa Just assist for the kill. The Tigers cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to one at 24-23 before Taylor Hayne spiked the ball to win the set for the Blue Raiders at 25-23.
Lindsey Wilson trailed 3-1 early in the third set before tying it at four after a Georgetown ball handling error made it 4-4. The Blue Raiders took a 9-7 lead after another Tigers attack error and followed that with an 8-5 run to take a 17-12 lead on a Hayne kill. Lindsey Wilson closed the set out on an 8-4 run to take the set 25-16 on a service ace by Nesheva.
The Tigers took charge of set four, opening up a 14-1 lead and extending it to 20-8 before taking the set 25-11.
In the fifth and deciding set the Blue Raiders jumped out to a 4-1 lead on the Tigers before an attack error tied it at five apiece. Georgetown took the lead at 6-5 on a kill by Caraline Maher however Lindsey Wilson tied it back up at seven on a kill by Kailey Moorhead. Georgetown would go on a 7-4 run to win the set 15-11.
Lindsey Wilson finished the match with a .215 attack percentage on 57 kills and five services aces while Georgetown had a .246 attack percentage on 73 kills with six service aces.
For the Tigers, Eubanks had a team high 17 kills as Lindsey Martindale and Stephanie Gurren added 33 and 27 assists respectively.
