Blue Raiders improve to 19-0 on the season
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College's Nadelina Nesheva and Sarah Anderson combined for 30 kills to help the No. 8-ranked Blue Raiders to a 3-0 sweep of host Campbellsville (Ky.) University on Tuesday night at the Powell Athletic Center.
The Blue Raiders run their season record to 19-0 on the season and 9-0 in the Mid-South Conference with the 30-28, 25-18, 25-13 win. Campbellsville falls to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play with the loss.
The Tigers were anything but hospitable in the opening set building as much as a six-point lead on the visiting Blue Raiders. Campbellsville used an 8-2 run in the middle of the set to take a 20-14 lead.
After exchanging points, Lindsey Wilson used its longest streak of the set scoring six straight to regain the lead at 22-21.
Neither team could manage to string together points in the waning moments of the set until Campbellsville committed back-to-back errors to give the Blue Raiders the 30-28 first-set win.
In the second set, Lindsey scored eight of the final 10 points en route to a 25-18 win.
Campbellsville took advantage of six Lindsey Wilson service errors in the set to keep things close. The Blue Raiders led 12-8 midway through the set only to have the Tigers close within a single point (17-16).
Five consecutive Lindsey Wilson points gave the Blue Raiders a 22-16 cushion. Nesheva and Anderson each provided a kill in the run. A pair of Campbellsville errors and a combined block from Nesheva and Alexa Just put the Blue Raiders up six.
Taylor Hayne and Kailey Moorhead each provided kills for the final two points of the set to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson scored seven of the first eight points of the third set and never looked back in a 25-13 win. The Blue Raiders increased their lead to as many as 13 points on three different occasions during the set.
As a team, Lindsey Wilson accumulated a .393 attacking percentage compared to just .112 from the Tigers. The Blue Raiders also finished the game with 10 team blocks.
Just led the Blue Raiders with 45 assists while Maeghan Angel ended with a team-high 17 digs.
Campbellsville's Rinata Aisena, Jana Kortas and Daiane Souza each finished with nine kills to lead the team.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 3, as the Blue Raiders travel to Asbury (Ky.) University in Wilmore, Ky.
