GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson's Jessica King and Alicia Rodriguez captured the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship doubles title with an 8-6 win over teammates Sarah Bernos and Alejandra Galvis in an all Lindsey Wilson final at the Lackey Tennis Center.
With the victory, King and Rodriguez advance to the ITA National Championship at the Three Oaks Tennis Center in Fort Myers, Fla., Oct. 11-13.
King and Rodriguez drew a tough draw, having to beat the third and fourth seeded teams to get the finals. King and Rodriguez defeated Shelby Eden and Emily Krick 8-1 in the round of 16, second-seed Rachel Hodas and Kayla Kelly 8-5 in the quarterfinals and third-seed Megan Charity and Haley Dallas 8-4 to reach the finals.
Blue Raiders fourth-seeded Bernos and Galvis met top-seed Alena Gizdic and Angelica Sepulveda in the semifinals, upsetting the top-seeded team 8-5.
In addition to her finals showing in the doubles draw, Rodriguez reached the singles final losing to University of the Cumberlands' (Ky.) Neesha Thirumalaichelvam in two sets, 7-6, 6-4.
Lindsey Wilson had three players make the semifinals of the singles tournament. Third-seeded Galvis was joined in the semifinals by King and Rodriguez.
King defeated fifth-seed Megan Charity 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16 to reach the quarterfinals match against Bernos. King beat her teammate 6-0, 6-3 to set up a semifinals match with the top-seeded Thirumalaichelvam, who defeated King in three sets - 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 - to reach the finals.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Rodriguez beat fellow Blue Raider Galvis 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to reach the singles final.
