Blue Raiders notch 10th straight win with the 6-3 win
LEBANON, Tenn. -- No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis won five of six singles matches today to beat No. 16-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) 6-3 in a battle of ranked teams.
The win pushes the Blue Raiders' winning streak to 10 straight and leaves Lindsey Wilson as the lone unbeaten Mid-South Conference team. The Blue Raiders improve to 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the Mid-South with the win.
Cumberland falls to 8-5 overall and remains in second place in the conference with a 4-1 conference record.
The Blue Raiders had to overcome a deficit following doubles play as the host took a 2-1 advantage into the six singles matches.
Laura Vergara and Diana Gerlakh cruised for the Blue Raiders in the No. 3 doubles match with an 8-2 win over Sandra Munoz and Tais Lacerda for the early 1-0 lead.
Angelica Sepulveda and Antea Dedic got the equalizer in the top doubles match with an 8-4 win over Sarah Bernos and Slavica Milanovic.
The Bulldogs would take their first lead of the match following the final doubles match.
Alena Gizdic and Anita Rácz outlasted Anna Gaprindashvili and Alejandra Galvis 8-6 in the second-seeded doubles match for the 2-1 lead.
Sepulveda would win the lone singles match for the Bulldogs with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Milanovic in the top singles match.
The Blue Raiders would dominate the final five matches with straight wins in each.
Galvis would cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Gizdic in the second-seeded match and Vergara defeated Dedic 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match.
Gaprindashvili, Gerlakh and Rocio Cardo closed out the match with wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 matches respectively.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Sunday, April 7 as the Blue Raiders host MSC foe St. Catharine (Ky.) at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. First serve is at Noon CT.
