COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College cross country and track & field team has signed Seth Harkness to a NAIA scholarship, the school announced on Tuesday.
Harkness, a Bowling Green, Kentucky, native, helped Warren East High to a second place finish at the 2005 KHSAA Class AA State Cross Country Meet and 22nd place finish at the 2006 KHSAA Class AA State Track & Field Meet.
At the state cross country meet, Harkness finished 13th with a time of 17 minutes and 4.41 seconds over the 5,000 meter Kentucky Horse Park course in Lexington. He entered the state meet following a first place finish at the Class AA Region 2 meet. The win was his second straight regional championship.
At the state track & field meet earlier this month, Harkness finished fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10 minutes and 27.14 seconds. His fifth place finish earned Warren East four of its eight points in the meet. Harkness earned the invitation after finishing first at the regional meet. He also finished second in the 1600 meter run at the region level, but did not participate at the state meet in that event.
"Seth, like most high school student-athletes pursuing college endeavors, will face many challenges," Lindsey Wilson cross country and track & field coach Edwin Hagans said. "I have no doubt he will overcome them. He has shown in academics and athletics he will prevail. Seth and I are both excited he chose Lindsey Wilson College to succeed."
The Lindsey Wilson cross country team finished second at the NAIA Region XI Championships last November, while the men's outdoor track & field team finished 20th at the NAIA National Championships in May.
