SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College found four straight wins in the middle of the dual to use a 16-point swing to take down 12th-ranked Baker (Kan.) at the NWCA National Duals on Saturday.
Lindsey Wilson, which finished 2-1 on the day, is one win away from the fifth-place dual. Action resumes at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday against Missouri Valley at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
Missouri Valley, ranked 10th in the NAIA, beat Cumberlands (Ky.) and Oklahoma City in the consolation bracket to advance.
Lindsey Wilson rebounded in a big way at the next three weight classes, led by Joe Cozart registering a fall in two minutes and 43 seconds on Conner Middleton. Cozart's win, combined with a huge major decision from Zach McCormick (149) and 8-1 win by Wismit Moinius (141), put Lindsey Wilson on top of Baker 13-7.
James Haywood continued the winning streak at 165, giving the Blue Raiders 16 straight points with a hard-fought 6-2 win against Nathan Sommer. The streak came to an end at 174 as Cadyn McKeeth was edged 3-2 to bring the Blue Raider overall lead down to 16-10 in the dual.
Thomas Buckman lost as well at 184, dropping a 9-2 decision to Jarid Price. Jacob Bradford picked Lindsey Wilson back up with a 5-2 win at 197 over Robert Shadrach to give heavyweight Teddy Furnish a six-point cushion going into his match with top-ranked Brandon Gebhardt.
Furnish held his ground against Shadrach and avoided allowing any takedowns to lose the finale just 2-0 and give the Blue Raiders a 19-16 dual win.
