BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's golf team signed Joe Hood to a NAIA scholarship, the school announced on Monday.
Hood finished tied for 11th at the 2006 Leachman Buick & GMC/ KHSAA Boys State Championships at the Bowling Green Country Club in October. Hood shot 11-over par 155 (81-74) in the two-day tournament.
"I am very excited about Joe's addition to our golf program," Lindsey Wilson men's golf coach Chris Starks said. "Athletically and academically, he is a perfect fit for Lindsey Wilson."
The Bowling Green, Ky., native, joins the Blue Raiders for the 2007-08 school year.
Hood averaged 36.8 strokes per nine holes of competition throughout the 2006 season while helping the Dragons to a 17-5 team record.
"I plan to work hard everyday over the summer to improve my golf game for the college level." Hood said. "I hope to have an impact right from the start with the team. I'm going to work real hard and see where that gets me."
Starks sees Hood making an immediate impact on the nationally-ranked Blue Raiders.
"I expect Joe to challenge for a spot in our top-five from the beginning," Starks said. "His addition makes us a deeper, stronger team. I'm confident Joe is going to have an outstanding collegiate career."
The No. 23-ranked Blue Raiders finished the regular season winning the Mid-South Conference/NAIA Region XI Championships and earned the automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on May 22-25 as they compete in the NAIA National Championships at the Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Indiana.
