MOBILE, Ala. -- Four members of the Lindsey Wilson College men’s and women’s tennis teams continued play today at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

Lindsey Wilson senior and the women’s single’s top-seed Candela Castanon advanced to the Saturday’s national finals with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Benedictine (Kan.) College’s Paulina Ojeda.

Castanon faces Auburn University Montgomery’s Nathalie Sienkob -- who upset second seeded Angie Minova of Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University in straight sets today -- at 7:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

Castanon and doubles partner, sophomore Jessica Weyreuter, did not fair as well falling in the national finals to Fresno Pacific’s Anna Karavayeva and Maria Klokotsky. The Fresno duo beat the Lindsey Wilson pair 6-2, 6-1 to claim the championship.

On the men’s side, Lindsey Wilson sophomore Freddy Luciani fell in straight sets to the top-seed, Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University’s Mislav Hizak in the national semifinal. Luciani fell 6-0, 6-1 and will face Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University’s Mattijas Bolsius in the third-place match at 9:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

Luciani and double’s partner, junior Eduard Khan won a pair of matches to claim fifth place in the tournament. The Lindsey Wilson duo beat Spring Arbor (Mich.) University’s Matt Lantz and Jordan Hoy 6-2, 7-5 and Lindenwood (Mo.) University’s AbdelKarim Elldrissi and Fabio Falcato 6-4, 7-5 to win the consolation bracket.

The four Lindsey Wilson tennis student-athletes captured the ITA Southeast titles on September 22 in Lebanon, Tenn., to advance to the national tournament.
