BRADENTON, Fla. -- Incoming Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer junior Renee Hurd made an impression at the United Soccer Leagues' (USL) North American Finals, being named to the All-Tournament Team while playing for the Colorado Rapids alongside teammate Therese Hagbyhn this past weekend at the IMG Academy.

Hurd, a transfer to the Blue Raiders from Darton (Ga.) College, used stellar defensive play to help the Rapids claim the USL Championship with a 1-0 shutout win against D.C. United.

USL National Technical Director Peter Mellor characterized Hurd's performance throughout the tournament as vital to the team's championship.

"Renee is very tactically aware," said Mellor. "She was able to win the ball and knew where to go with it."

Hurd was joined on the all-tournament team by Rapids teammates Karisa Price, who was named Most Valuable Player with four goals in group play, and Safe Hands Award-winning goalkeeper Hannah Clark.

Hagbyhn, a sophomore defender for the Blue Raiders, was with the Rapids throughout the summer and helped anchor the team's defense that played such a large role in capturing the league championship. Hagbyhn played in 20 games as a freshman, scoring three goals and dishing out three assists.
