Nine opponents on the 2012 slate qualified for the 2011 NAIA National Championship
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson finished 31-3 in 2011 and qualified for its first NAIA Volleyball National Championship. In 2012, it will be tested early and often with nine teams from that championship field on the schedule.
The Blue Raiders will rely on six returners who were regulars in the lineup, along with a strong incoming recruiting class to take on three talented teams at the start of the season.
Beginning on Aug. 24 at a two-day tournament hosted by Lee (Tenn.), Lindsey Wilson faces Xavier (La.) on Friday, followed by Indiana Wesleyan and Lee on Saturday.
All three opponents in Cleveland, Tenn., played in last season's NAIA Championship, including the host Flames who finished third nationally.
Other tournament-tested opponents include Columbia (Mo.) on Sept. 1, Spring Hill (Ala.) on Sept. 7, Taylor (Ind.) on Oct. 26, Indiana East on Oct. 26 and Indiana Wesleyan and Indiana Tech on Oct. 27.
Lindsey Wilson's first home match is scheduled at 6 p.m. CT on Aug. 28 against Asbury (Ky.) in Biggers Sports Center. Home volleyball matches can be seen on Lindsey Live.
The Blue Raiders won their first Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship last season and face their first league opponent in 2012 on Sept. 5 at Campbellsville (Ky.).
Four regular-season tournament are on the schedule, including the season opener at Lee (Aug. 24-25), the Columbia College Tournament in Columbia, Mo. (Aug. 31-Sept.1), Faulkner Tournament in Montgomery, Ala. (Sept. 7-8) and Georgetown's Boneyard Brawl in Georgetown, Ky. (Oct. 26-27).
The MSC Tournament takes place on Nov. 9-10 at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky., followed by the opening round of the NAIA National Championship at campus sites on Nov. 17.
The final round of the championship last from Nov. 27-Dec. 1 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
