NAIA Softball Championship Central

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Lindsey Wilson will play another game in the NAIA Softball National Championship, but a trip to the double-elimination round next week is not available after falling to 0-2 with a 6-2 loss to Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Friday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

The Blue Raiders (46-13) lost to Union (Tenn.) 6-0 on Thursday and play Indiana Southeast in their final game of the championship at 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

IUS shocked the Chaparrals 7-5 on Thursday and plays Union at 6 p.m., Friday night.

Briefly, Lindsey Wilson was on top of Lubbock Christian (55-8) and its powerful pitcher Sarah Mendez 1-0.

Blue Raider third baseman Emily Prair led off the first inning with a walk and later scored from third on a passed ball by Chaps catcher Marisa Coats.

After a scoreless second inning, Lubbock Christian put together five hits in the third to score three runs and added another run in the fifth on a single by first baseman Kim Frazier.

Another scoreless inning followed in the sixth, but the Chaps pushed across a pair of runs in the final inning.

Frazier hit a single to left-center field to score pinch runner Caitlynn Carman and left fielder Andrea Argee followed with a double to score Frazier.

Looking at a 6-1 deficit in the final half inning, Lindsey Wilson made one last effort to get back in the game.

Right fielder Megan Huckaby slapped a ground ball between the shortstop and second baseman for a one-out single and later scored on Priars hit to second base.

Priar would be stranded however as center fielder Jane Egiazarova recorded the game's final out on a dropped third strike that was completed on a throw to first.

Mendez picked up the win in the circle, throwing a complete game with just two runs allowed on four hits. Mendez struck out 13 batters as she improved to 21-1 on the season.

Blue Raider starter Kristina Krupinski (3-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in two innings of work. Jordan Hood finished the final five innings, allowing three runs on six hits as well.

Priar, left fielder Andrew Whelan, first baseman Brittney Novickis and Huckaby all recorded hits for Lindsey Wilson.

Lubbock Christian was led by center fielder Brittany Kent with three hits and Frazier with three hits and four RBIs.
