David Novak finishes second at today's road race
OGDEN, Utah -- The Lindsey Wilson College cycling team ended its season today with an eighth place finish at the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships.
The Blue Raiders scored 106 total points during today's road race finale. Lindsey Wilson competed in the Team Time Trials on Friday and the Criterium on Saturday.
Lindsey Wilson concludes the three-day event with 247 team points in the Division I Team Omnium -- two points from seventh and four points from sixth overall. Marian (Ind.) University captured the team crown with 500 team points.
Today, Lindsey Wilson's David Novak's runner-up finish in the 77-mile (125k) road race propelled the Blue Raider men to a second place team finish with 83 points. Novak finished with a time of three hours, four minutes and 25 seconds.
Novak finished 13 seconds off the pace of winner Josh Yeaton from University of Colorado-Boulder.
Lindsey Wilson's Johnathan Freter finished just outside the top-10 in 11th place. Freter crossed the line in 3:06:29. Filip Capala finished in 61st place in the 121-man field with a time of 3:11:34.
Mikayla Lyman led the Blue Raider women with a 23rd place finish over the 62-mile (101k) course. Lyman ended with a time of 3:01:38 to finish five seconds out of the top-20.
Yesica Mendoza ended in 49th after a time of 3:09:17 and Hannah Hayduk finished 55th with a time of 3:16:08. The Blue Raider trio helped the women score 23 team points towards their overall total.
Colorado-Boulder's Heather Fischer won the individual title with a time of 2:54:47.
With today's finish, Lindsey Wilson ends the season-long competition over four disciplines ranked No. 4 in Division I. The Blue Raiders scored 256 points over the four disciplines to finish behind Fort Lewis (Col.) College (357 points), Marian (317) and Lees-McRae (N.C.) College (275).
