Road race is set for Sunday
OGDEN, Utah -- The Lindsey Wilson College cycling team sits in eighth place following today's criterium at the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships.
After two events -- including Friday's team time trial -- Lindsey Wilson has amassed 141 team points in the championships. The Blue Raiders' 141 points match seventh-place Midwestern State (Texas) University -- who currently owns the tiebreaker over LWC -- in the Division I Team Omnium with Sunday's road race remaining.
Marian (Ind.) University leads the Team Omnium with 344 points followed by Fort Lewis (Col.) College (287 points) and University of Colorado-Boulder (282).
Today, the Lindsey Wilson women added 64 points towards the team total while the Blue Raider men score 15 points.
Lindsey Wilson's Yesica Mendoza led the Blue Raider women with a 13th place finish over the one-mile (1.6 kilometers) criterium course. She finished in a group of riders just two seconds off the winning pace during the hour-long race.
Hannah Hayduk ended in 16th -- in the same grouping with Mendoza -- while Brooke Crum finished 19th three seconds back of the LWC duo. All three Blue Raider women finished on the lead lap in the 58-woman event.
Marian's Kaitlin Antonneau won the sprint to the finish line -- following the one-hour criterium, riders on the lead lap race three final laps to the finish -- to earn the top step on the podium.
In the men's race, Lindsey Wilson's Justin Lowe led the way for the Blue Raiders with a 38th place finish in the 108-man field. Lowe was part of a group just six seconds off Colorado-Boulder's Josh Yeaton's winning pace.
Lindsey Wilson's David Novak ended in 71st position while Filip Capala finished 89th.
The Blue Raiders complete road nationals on Sunday with the men's 77-mile (125k) road race and the women's 62-mile (101k) race.
