LWC picks up more voting points but slips in poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Despite winning the Mid-South Conference Tournament last week, the Lindsey Wilson College softball team slipped two spots in this week's NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll, released on Tuesday by NAIA officials.

The Blue Raiders fell to No. 22 this week after receiving 196 voting points from the national raters. Lindsey Wilson was ranked No. 20 last week while garnering 190 voting points.

Lindsey Wilson (45-12) won four of five games in the MSC Tournament last week, including a 20-2 win in the tournament's championship game over Campbellsville (Ky.) University.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson earns the MSC's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament in Gulf Shores, Ala. in two weeks.

Concordia (Calif.) University (51-3) remains atop the national poll with 591 voting points and 20 of the 21 first-place votes. Cal State San Marcos (47-4) is second in the poll with 572 voting points followed by Oklahoma City University in third with 552 voting points. Central Baptist (Ark.) University is fourth with 531 voting points and the final first-place vote.

The poll is voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each conference, the independents and unaffiliated groups. The final poll is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, May 8.

Lindsey Wilson learns its NAIA pool play assignment at the NAIA National Tournament on Wednesday, May 9. The national tournament begins May 17 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
