Jeremy Greene matches his longest outing of the season in a 5-1 win.
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A three-run first inning proved to be all the runs the No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson College baseball team would need en route to a 5-1 win over visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) University tonight at Egnew Park.
With the win, the Blue Raiders (32-10) extend their winning streak to 17 games -- the longest current winning streak in the NAIA and the third longest this season.
Lindsey Wilson used RBI hits from Manuel Alonso, Manuel Ozoria and Tyler Bernard to take the early 3-0 lead. Ozoria and Bernard each ended the game with two hits.
Alonso extended his hitting streak to 16 games after going 1-for-4 in the game.
While the Blue Raiders capitalized in the first inning, Cumberland (23-21) was unable to score with bases loaded in the top of the first inning.
Jeremy Greene (2-2) pitched out of the early jam on his way to allowing just one run on six hits in his 7-2/3 innings. He also struck out six while matching his longest outing of the season.
The Blue Raiders -- who out-hit the Bulldogs 10-6 in the game -- added a run in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Cumberland scored its lone run in the eighth inning off a RBI single from Nick Sydnor to cut the lead to 5-1.
Following the run, Lindsey Wilson's Daniel Pulliam relieved Greene on his way to his second save of the season. Pulliam hurled a scoreless 1-1/3 innings while allowing just one base runner via a walk.
Logan Neal (2-1) suffered the loss despite throwing a complete game. He allowed all five runs -- two earned -- on 10 hits while striking out three.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Friday, April 13, as the Blue Raiders travel to Mid-South Conference foe St. Catharine (Ky.) College for the first of a three-game series.
