Every player suited up for Lindsey Wilson scores as Blue Raiders snap four-game skid
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- One of those nights where everything goes right is just what No. 12 Lindsey Wilson College needed to snap a four-game losing streak against Rio Grande (Ohio) on Saturday night in Biggers Sports Center.
Shooting 54.1 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from behind the arc, every Blue Raider on the roster chipped in to top the visiting RedStorm 86-52.
Rio Grande's Shaun Gunnell led all scorers with 18 points, but it was the balanced effort from Lindsey Wilson that stole the show.
Both Chase Cox and Chase Spreen paced the Blue Raiders with 14 points each, while Justin Archie and Charles Baker added 10 points each as well. Cox was lethal from long range, finishing 4-of-5 from downtown as Lindsey Wilson (16-8, 8-4 MSC) finished 8-of-15 from deep as a team.
The hot shooting didn't end at the 3-point line as free-throw shooting was a thing of beauty for Lindsey Wilson on Saturday as well. The Blue Raiders shot 12-of-14 from the stripe, not missing a show until late in the second half.
With the nets being blistered on the Blue Raiders' side, Rio Grande (12-14, 3-9 MSC) couldn't put on its own shooting clinic. Rio Grande shot 35.0 percent from the field and just 14.3 percent from being the arc. Making matters worse it turned the ball over 19 times with just 12 assists.
Rio Grande scored just six points in the game's first eight and a half minutes as Lindsey Wilson was in control 20-6 with 11:34 to play in the half after a Cox 3-pointer.
From there Rio Grande never got the deficit under double digits again as the Blue Raiders saw their lead balloon to a game-high 35 points on a free throw by Kalen Kimberland with 1:30 to play.
With 16:12 to play in the second half Rio Grande hit a rough patch that saw it not score for nearly three minutes as Lindsey Wilson tallied a 12-0 run to take a 33-point lead on yet another Cox three.
At halftime Lindsey Wilson led by 20 at 41-21 as Archie had already scored eight of his 10 points.
Every player suiting up for the Blue Raiders got on the scoreboard as the Blue Raider bench outscored the RedStorm's 35-17.
Lindsey Wilson is back on the court at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 16 at Shawnee State (Ohio) in Portsmouth, Ohio.
