Riley and Stephens tally individual titles at Ohio Northern Invitational
ADA, Ohio -- The Lindsey Wilson College wrestling team jumped back in to open competition and put together seven place winners at the Ohio Northern University Invitational on Saturday in Ada, Ohio.
Included in the seven place winners were a pair of individual champions. Junior Damonte Riley took the title at 141 pounds, while sophomore Ian Stephens placed first at 184 pounds.
Senior Charlie Pingleton placed second at 157 pounds, sophomore Derek Nickel finished third at heavyweight and senior Keith Klink finished just outside the top three with a fourth-place showing at 133 pounds.
Newcomer James Haywood claimed sixth place at 174 pounds and sophomore Isaac Thomas rounded out the place winners at 141 pounds finishing seventh.
When adding up team points at the invitational Lindsey Wilson was fourth with 125.5 points, while Mid-South Conference rival Campbellsville (Ky.) University was second with 138 points.
Olivet (Mich.) College won the team title with 147 points and Mercyhurst (Pa.) College was third with 135.5 points.
Riley went 4-0 to claim his individual title, starting with a pair of major decisions and a decision to reach the first-place match. To earn the title Riley topped Campbellsville's Tommy Pretty 12-5.
Stephens went 5-0 on his path to a title, including receiving an injury-default from Tiffin University's Kevin Christman to win the championship. Leading up to that Stephens took a decision against Allen Scruggs from Campbellsville 6-1 in the semifinals.
Pingleton came as close to another title as possible, losing to Mercyhurst's Jordan Shield 4-3 in the finals to take second place.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Dec. 11 in an MSC dual against Shorter (Ga.) University in Rome, Ga.
