Volleyball goes for first MSC Tournament title on Sunday
FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team kept its magical season going today with a pair of wins in the Mid-South Conference Tournament at the Frankfort Convention Center.
The Blue Raiders (30-2) advance to Sunday's championship match against third-seeded Georgetown College. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson opened its tournament with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21 win over No. 8-seed UVa.-Wise in the quarterfinals.
With the win, the Blue Raiders advanced into the tournament's semifinals to face fourth-seeded University of Rio Grande in the final match of the day.
The Blue Raiders dominated the match from the start en route to a 25-14, 25-12, 25-20 to advance to their second championship match in four years. Lindsey Wilson has never won the tournament's championship match.
Lindsey Wilson faces Georgetown who beat Shawnee State University and Campbellsville University to reach its 16th straight tournament finals.
The Tigers needed a dramatic comeback to advance. Georgetown overcame a 2-0 deficit and six match points to win in five sets over Campbellsville in the first semifinal.
Lindsey Wilson won both meetings this season with Georgetown. The Blue Raiders won 3-1 in Georgetown and swept the Tigers in Columbia.
