Four student-athletes make All-Conference team at awards banquet

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- After winning its first Mid-South Conference Regular-Season Volleyball Championship, Lindsey Wilson College placed nine student-athletes on the all-conference teams at the annual MSC volleyball awards banquet held Friday night in Frankfort, Ky.

Freshmen Sarah Anderson, Taylor Hayne and Kirsten King and junior Andrea Taylor were awarded spots on the MSC All-Conference team, while senior Kayla Koerber was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.

Senior Rachael Anderson, juniors Alyssa Cuthbert, Angela Mlachnik and Taylor, sophomore Emily Meeks and Koerber all earned Academic All-Conference honors.

Anderson was second in the conference in hitting percentage at .359, while King was fourth in the league registering 3.2 kills per set to lead the Blue Raiders with 277 kills and Hayne tallied a sixth best 2.9 kills per set in the MSC.

Taylor put together a monster season leading the Lindsey Wilson offense with 978 assists for a 10.8 assists per set average, which was more than two assists higher than the next setter on the list.

Koerber finished her regular season with a balanced effort of 162 kills and 68 blocks in the middle for the Blue Raiders to earn all-conference honors.

Lindsey Wilson missed out on any of the four individual awards as Campbellsville (Ky.) University's Shannon Cahill was named MSC Player of the Year and Georgetown (Ky.) College's Allyson Wilbourn and St. Catharine (Ky.) College's Charlotte Jewell shared Freshman of the Year honors.

St. Catharine's Adam Stevenson was named the league's Coach of the Year. Stevenson led the Patriots to a 25-9 overall record after finishing 6-33 in 2010.

Lindsey Wilson opens MSC Tournament play at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday at the Frankfort Civic Center against eighth seeded University of Virginia College at Wise who beat ninth seeded University of Pikeville (Ky.) 3-0 in an opening-round match on Friday afternoon.

If the Blue Raiders win their first match they would play again at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals.
