COLUMBIA, Ky. -- In an otherwise off hitting night for the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team, freshman Taylor Hayne came through in a big way with 12 kills and three blocks to help knock off Indiana University Southeast 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-16) on Monday at Biggers Sports Center.
The win is the Blue Raiders' 19th straight as they improve to 26-1 overall and 9-1 in Mid-South Conference play. The Grenadiers drop to 20-15 with the loss, while they are 10-5 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The 26 wins are the most for Lindsey Wilson since 2008 when it finished 28-9. The highest win total in program history is 33 recorded in 1999.
Apart from Hayne, the Blue Raiders got four kills each from sophomore Haley Barnes, junior Ashlie Haworth and senior Kayla Koerber. As a team Lindsey Wilson put together a .131 hitting percentage on 31-of-99 attacks.
IU Southeast hit .078 for the match with Taylore Chestnut leading the way with six kills on just 11 swings for a match-high .455 hitting mark. Lauren McCartin paced the Grenadiers with 12 digs, while Meaghan Tompkins and Katie Johnson each dished out 10 assists.
Both teams blocked well in the match with P.J. Cockerell sending back a match-high four blocks, while Koerber led Lindsey Wilson with three.
Like IU Southeast, the Blue Raiders got a balanced effort digging the ball with Haworth getting up 11 balls and senior Rachael Anderson finishing with 10.
Serving was a struggle on both sides with the Grenadiers finishing with three aces and 10 errors, compared to three aces and eight errors for Lindsey Wilson.
The match was a rematch of the season opener for Lindsey Wilson where it beat IU Southeast 3-1 back in August.
This time around there was little doubt to the outcome as the Blue Raiders were dominant in sets one and three and displayed some resilience coming back from behind in the second set.
Now Lindsey Wilson sets its sights to the rest of the week as it takes part in two important MSC West Division matches.
Up first is St. Catharine (Ky.) College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT in St. Catharine, Ky., followed by a 7 p.m. start on Thursday against Campbellsville (Ky.) University in Biggers Sports Center.
