RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team had to battle tonight to extend its program-record winning streak to 16 matches.

The Blue Raiders overcame deficits in each winning set en route to a 25-20, 14-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9 win over host University of Rio Grande (Ohio) at Newt Oliver Arena.

The match -- featuring the leaders in the Mid-South Conference East and West Divisions -- proved to be a back and forth affair.

The Blue Raiders (23-1, 7-1 in the MSC) overcame a six-point deficit in the opening set to eventually pull out a 25-20 win. Following a dominate second set from the host Bears (13-12, 3-4) Lindsey Wilson once again erased an early deficit to win 25-18 in the third set to take a 2-1 lead.

Rio Grande refused to go away and tied the match at 2-2 with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.

In the fifth and decisive set, the Blue Raiders fell behind 2-0 before scoring the set's next nine points on the serve of senior Rachael Anderson. The RedStorm were able to get within five points six different times during the set, but could get no closer as the Blue Raiders secured their 16th straight win with a 15-9 margin in the final set.

Lindsey Wilson freshman Kirsten King recorded a career-high 21 kills to lead three Blue Raiders in double-digit kills. King finished with a .333 attacking percentage while collecting a team-high 18 digs.

Freshman Taylor Hayne added 15 kills while freshman Sierra Wilkerson chipped in 11 kills.

Junior Andrea Taylor finished with a season-high 54 assists while adding 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Rio Grande's Whitney Smith led all hitters with 27 kills and reigning MSC Volleyball Player of the Week Erin Sherman added 13 kills.

With tonight's win, Lindsey Wilson eclipsed the combined win total of the last two seasons despite committing a season-high 31 attacking errors. The Blue Raiders won 10 matches in 2009 and recorded 12 wins last season.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 18, as the Blue Raiders travel to University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg, Ky.
