COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College junior Ida Gregersen scored a goal and assisted on two others in the Blue Raiders' 3-1 win over University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) tonight at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
Despite falling behind early in the match, the Blue Raiders (6-4, 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference) dominated play for much of the night. Lindsey Wilson ended the match out-shooting the visiting Patriots (2-4-2, 1-1 in the MSC) 18-2, including 8-1 in shots on goal.
Cumberlands grabbed the 1-0 lead after Katie Hefelfinger's shot from near midfield sailed just out of the reach of Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Yoshida Reiko in the game's ninth minute.
In the 16th minute, Lindsey Wilson's Caitlin Burke knotted the game at 1-1 with her first goal of the season. Burke started the play by attacking near the top of the penalty area. She found Gregersen streaking on the right side and Gregersen returned the ball eight yards off the line and Burke beat Cumberlands goalkeeper Brittany Gadd for the tie.
The match remained tied at 1-1 until the 59th minute when Gregersen recorded her fifth assist of the season and second of the night setting up Hanna Jonsson for the 2-1 lead.
Gregersen added a goal in the 87th minute to give the Blue Raiders the 3-1 win.
Yoshida picked up the win while allowing a goal. She did not record a save. Gadd ended allowing three goals while stopping five Lindsey Wilson shots.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 1, as the Blue Raiders travel to West Virginia University Tech in Montgomery, W.Va.
