COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Derek Cape faced just 16 batters, striking out three while allowing just two hits in 5.0 innings to give the Lindsey Wilson College baseball team an 11-0 mercy-rule win against St. Catharine (Ky.) College on Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Patriots responded in game two, edging the Blue Raiders 7-5 despite being outhit 10-7. Lance Rose started for Lindsey Wilson, staying on the mound for 4.1 innings with four strikeouts, while scattering seven hits for six earned runs. Jose Castro and Jeremy Greene each threw an inning for the Blue Raiders as well.

Designated hitter Garrett Helm went a combined 3-for-7 at the plate with a grand slam in game one, six RBI and a run scored. Second baseman Heath Barnes went 5-for-7 with a pair of home runs and three RBU and three runs scored.

Center fielder Dustin Murphy and third baseman Max Rhodes both finished 2-for-3 in the loss with both players hitting a double and driving in a run.

A seven-run second inning game Lindsey Wilson an 8-0 lead in game one and St. Catharine never recovered, finding just two hits off cape in the shortened game after Lindsey Wilson built a 10-run lead after five innings. The Blue Raiders reached the 10-run mark after adding three in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Both teams opened the first inning of game two with a run, but the Patriots tallied three runs in the second inning to separate themselves from the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson, however, fought back with two runs in the third inning, leaving St. Catharine in need of three runs over the fifth and sixth innings to put them away.

The Blue Raiders made things interesting in the seventh inning, scoring two runs to pull within 7-5 with two outs and runners on first and second. First baseman Zach Prichard came to the plate representing the winning run, and sent a blast down left field that sailed into foul territory.

Then with two strikes against him, Prichard struck out to bring the game to a close. Lindsey Wilson is 17-16 overall and 5-11 in the Mid-South Conference after the split, while St. Catharine is 25-15 and 10-6 in the MSC.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 6 against Union (Tenn.) University at Lindsey Wilson Park.
