FRESNO, Calif. -- A pair of Lindsey Wilson College track & field student-athletes competed in the first day of the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.

Lindsey Wilson junior Sammy Maiyo finished third in the 23-man 10,000-meter run field to earn six points.
On the women's side, Lindsey Wilson sophomore Marie Coyon finished 18th in the 22-woman 10,000-meter run field.

The Eldoret, Kenya, native, ran the 10,000 meters in 30 minutes and 59.30 seconds. Maiyo finished 12 seconds behind 10,000-meter national champion and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University sophomore Aron Rono who finished in 30:47.25.

Following Maiyo's finish, the Lindsey Wilson men are tied for seventh after the first day. Azusa Pacific leads the men's championship race with 14 points.


Coyon, a Versailles, France, native, ran the 10,000 meters in 41:32.73 and failed to score. The top eight receive points.

Goshen (Ind.) College senior Petrana Petkova won the women's 10,000-meter national championship with a time of 36:27.01.

On Friday, Maiyo competes in the men's 5,000-meter run, freshman Stellah Sang competes in the women's 800-meter run and freshman Amanda Johnson competes in the women's 3,000-meter race walk.
