RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- After leading for much of the first half, the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) men's basketball team fell victim to a tremendous rebounding effort by Lindsey Wilson College as the Blue Raiders start the Mid-South Conference slate 1-0 with a 71-58 win on Thursday at Newt Oliver Arena.
Andrija Tintor led Lindsey Wilson with 19 points and eight rebounds, Eric McPherson added 15 points and Kalen Kimberland rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
Doug Campbell, who hit 4-of-6 shots from behind the arc, paced Rio Grande with 14 points, followed by Bud Teer and Daniel Marti with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The story of the game was the rebounding effort by the Blue Raiders as they held a 45-25 advantage on the glass for the game including a 24-11 advantage on the offensive boards.
Lindsey Wilson clawed back down the stretch in the first half and turned an eight-point deficit around the five-minute mark into a 33-32 lead at the break. The Blue Raiders outscored the Redstorm 38-26 in the second half to seal the win.
Free throws were a strong point for both teams as Lindsey Wilson hit 64 percent of its shots (21-for-33) and Rio Grande knocked down 12-of-13 of its shots from the line for a 92.3 percent performance.
The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 44.2 percent from the field while limiting Rio Grande to just 38.5 percent.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3:30 p.m. CT on Jan. 16 at Pikeville (Ky.) College.
