FRESNO, Calif. -- Three Lindsey Wilson College track & field student-athletes competed today at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
Lindsey Wilson freshman Amanda Johnson earned the first points of the national championships for the Blue Raider women in the 3,000-meter race walk.
Johnson, a Morganfield, Ky., native, finished the 3000 meters in 16 minutes and 54.68 seconds to finish sixth in the 11-woman field. Johnson earned four points to move the women's team into 25th place.
Goshen (Ind.) College freshman won the event with a time of 15:20.21.
Lindsey Wilson freshman Stellah Sang missed qualifying for the women's 800-meter run final by 17-hundredths of a second in the 19-woman field ran over two heats.
Sang, an Eldoret, Kenya, native, finished fifth in heat one with a time of 2:15.62. Her time was the 11th fastest time. The top nine advanced to tomorrow's finals.
Lindsey Wilson junior Sammy Maiyo finished with the best time in the men's 5,000-meter run.
Maiyo, an Eldoret, Kenya, native, ran the 5,000 meters in 15:01.77 to win heat two and advance into tomorrow's 16-man finals.
The Lindsey Wilson men are tied for 21st entering with six points entering Saturday's events.
On Saturday, Maiyo runs in the men's 5,000-meter finals, sophomore Kojo Hashiyama competes in the men's marathon and senior Jamaine Gordon competes in the men's triple jump.
