LEBANON, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team lost a pair of matches in heartbreaking fashion today at the Cumberland University Classic.
The Blue Raiders pushed two of four games past regulation before falling to Cumberland (Tenn.) University 3-1 in the first match of the classic. Lindsey Wilson lost the match 22-25, 32-34, 27-25, 18-25.
Two Lindsey Wilson players reached double figures in kills for the match. Freshman Ashley Haworth collected a team-high 13 kills, while Junior Rachael Achieng tallied 10. Sophomore Samantha Camp added nine kills.
Sophomore Alyca Morrison led the Blue Raiders on defense with 11 digs.
In the nightcap for the Blue Raiders, Lindsey Wilson endured its third five-game match over the last two days before falling to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 3-2. On Thursday, the Blue Raiders lost a doubleheader to University of Rio Grande (Ohio) by the same score.
Today, the Blue Raiders battled back from down 1-0 and 2-1 only to fall in the fifth and deciding game. Lindsey Wilson falls to 2-10 on the season with the 11-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19, 6-15 loss.
Haworth and Achieng each contributed a team-high 11 kills for the match while five Blue Raiders recorded double digit digs led by junior Sumyr Knight's 12. Senior Sarah Kline and freshman Andrea Taylor combined for 36 assists.
Lindsey Wilson concludes its play in the classic on Saturday, Sept. 19 against Bethel (Tenn.) College and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University.
