COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College junior Chelsey Key paced the field with four first-round birdies to help the Blue Raider women's golf team take the day one lead in the LWC Fall Invitational at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders shot a team-score of 307 on Monday to lead by four strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.
University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) finished the round in second with a score of 311. Lee (Tenn.) University shot 328 to take third, while Campbellsville (Ky.) University was ten strokes behind in fourth with a 338. St. Catharine (Ky.) College rounded out the group in fifth shooting a 407.
Key and senior Krista Burton lead the Blue Raiders after carding a one-over par 73 (36-37) and four-over par 76 (37-39) for the day, respectively. Key recorded the only birdie of the day on the par-three No. 15 and finished with 10 pars. Burton collected 12 pars of her own, while also sinking a pair of birdies.
The low score of the day belongs to Cumberlands freshman McKinzie Price who shot the only sub-par total with a 71 (37-34). Price was two under on par fours and finished with three birdies. Key is second on the individual leader board followed by Burton in third.
Lindsey Wilson sophomore Paola Gonzalez (40-39) and senior Jessica Smith (37-42) are tied for fifth place after shooting a seven-over par 79. Freshman Kelsey Joslyn completed her first collegiate round with an 82 (41-41) to finish in a tie for 12th at the midway point.
A quintet of Blue Raiders participated as individuals in the tournament. Senior Cheslee Stone is tied for eighth following her 80 (40-40) and freshman Jennifer MacKinnon is tied for 10th following an 81 (39-42). Freshmen Paige Raine's 86 (47-39) and Devon Dunn's 114 (57-57) is 19th and 38th respectively. Senior Shaina Bowen is 39th following her 116 (57-59).
Tuesday's final round begins at 8 a.m. CT.
