COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Rising junior Krista Burton advanced to the quarterfinals of the 82nd Women's Kentucky State Amateur Championship with a 3&2 win today over Kentucky signee Laura McGehee at Elizabethtown Country Club in Elizabethtown.

Rising junior Jessica Smith lost to defending champion Jessica Grace 2-up in today's second round.

Burton fell behind early but battled back to win five of six holes in the middle of the round to advance. The Jamestown, Ky., native, faces another Kentucky signee, Ashlee Rose, in Thursday morning's quarterfinals. The pair is scheduled to tee off at 7:49 a.m. CT.

Smith fell behind on front side before making a run on the back nine. But Grace's consistent play held off Smith's late charge. The Louisville native cut the deficit to 1-down with No. 18 to play. Grace won the final hole to advance.
