SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team is second after the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship opening round today at Lake San Marcos Country Club.
The Blue Raiders finished with a team total of 316 and sit five strokes behind first round leader and tournament host California State University San Marcos.
Lindsey Wilson sophomores Krista Burton (38-37) and Jessica Smith (35-40) led the Blue Raiders. The pair is tied for third along with Bethel (Ind.) College's Shanna Page and San Marcos' Natalie Todd with 75s.
Savannah College of Art & Design's (Ga.) Katina Ruest (35-37) leads the tournament with a 73. Rocky Mountain (Mont.) College's Rachel Warren (37-37) is second with a 74.
Lindsey Wilson senior Beth Cooper (35-46) is tied for 44th following an 81 and senior Jessica Robertson (44-41) is tied for 74th with an 85. Junior Aline Decker is 111th after a 94 (49-44).
Three-time defending champion Oklahoma City University and University of British Columbia are tied for third after 318s and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University is fifth with a 320.
Lindsey Wilson begins its second round at 2:50 p.m. CT on Wednesday at Lake San Marcos C.C.
