LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College has signed Clayton Omer to a cycling scholarship, the school announced on Monday.

Omer will join the Blue Raider program for the 2008-09 school year.

Omer will participate in the disciplines of mountain bike, road, and cyclocross while at Lindsey Wilson. The Louisville native won the 2006 Kentucky high school mountain bike state championship and finished runner-up last year.

"I have known Clayton for a few years now and have watched him mature as a cyclist and as a person," Lindsey Wilson cycling coach David Grigsby said. "I can say with all honesty that I believe this young man is going to be a star both on and off the bike.

"Clayton has a maturity beyond his years, a magnetic personality that draws you in and makes you feel comfortable, and it doesn't hurt that he is a phenomenal bike racer in several disciplines," Grigsby said. "Clayton could be the first cyclist in the school's history to podium in 5 cycling disciplines. You just can't put limits on this guy."

Omer placed first in the junior division of the 2007 Chickasaw Trace Classic in Columbia, Tenn. He also finished in the top 12 at the Cyclocross National Championships and was selected to compete in the prestigious Euro Cross Camp in Belgium last winter.

"I really like the location and campus at Lindsey Wilson," Omer said. "I'm looking forward to continuing my education and taking my cycling career to the next level."

Lindsey Wilson Cycling returns to action May 9-11 as they participate in the USA Cycling Road Nationals in Fort Collins, Colo.
