COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College has signed Matt Dooley to a cycling scholarship, the school announced on Wednesday.
Dooley, an Yreka, Calif., native, will join the Blue Raider program for the 2008-09 school year.
Dooley -- who will be participating in the disciplines of mountain, road, and cyclo-cross while at Lindsey Wilson -- is the 2007 Oregon State Champion for the Junior 17-18 Division in mountain bike, time trial, cyclo-cross, and mountain bike hill-climb.
"Matt's talent and strength in a number of disciplines will make him a very valuable member of our squad," Lindsey Wilson cycling coach David Grigsby said. "Many riders compete in multiple disciplines, but to excel in each one is rare and we are very excited to be bringing Matt into our program."
Dooley is also the 2007 California State Champion for the Junior 17-18 Division in mountain XC, and mountain ST.
At the 2008 Willamette Stage Race, Dooley placed third after stage one and finished ninth overall (CAT3) in the race.
In addition to these accomplishments, Dooley earned more than 30 first place finishes in 2007.
"I think the level of talent coming into the program for the fall is just phenomenal, " said Grigsby. "We will continue to seek out the best and the brightest young athletes who will carry on our tradition of excellence here at Lindsey Wilson."
The Lindsey Wilson Cycling team returns to action May 9-11 as they participate in the USA Cycling Road Nationals in Fort Collins, Colo.
