COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College cycling team participated at the Marian (Ind.) College Criterium and Purdue (Ind.) University Team Trial and Road Race over the weekend.
The Blue Raiders finished fifth with 227 team points in the 24-team criterium field on Saturday at Marian. Host Marian captured the win with 246 team points.
Junior Erin Collins led the Blue Raiders with a win in the women's "B" race. Collins, a Provo, Utah, native, dominated the race, leading the majority of the way en route to the win.
Senior Jean Schneider just missed winning the women's "A" race, finishing second behind University of Michigan's Julie Bellerose. Lindsey Wilson sophomore Sarah Lukas finished 24th in the final women's race of the day.
On the men's side, sophomore Kip Spaude earned the top men's finish of the day with a third place finish in the men's "A" race. Freshman Stefan Swecker finished 16th in the race.
In the men's "C" race, junior Ben Weatherly and freshman James Brown finished 25th and 32nd respectively.
On Sunday, Lindsey Wilson finished fifth in the 17-team time trial hosted by Purdue.
The Blue Raiders -- competing only at the "A" level -- scored 128 team points. Host Purdue won the event with 257 team points.
The Blue Raider women's team -- consisting of Collins, Lukas and Schneider -- finished third earning 79 points. The trio finished with a time of 16:35. The Lindsey Wilson men's team of Spaude, Swecker, sophomore Greg Powell and freshman Jake Zimmerman finished sixth with a time of 14:13.
In the road races, Collins captured her second win of the weekend winning the women's "B" race and Schneider and Lukas finished 12th and 18th respectively in the women's "A" race.
On the men's side, Spaude earned his second straight top-five with a second place finish in the men's "A" race. Zimmerman and Swecker finished 22nd and 23rd while Powell ended in 40th. In the men's "C" race, Weatherly finished 15th and Brown ended in 28th.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on April 19-20 as the Blue Raiders travel to the MWCCC Regional Championships in Milwaukee, Wis.
